Latin Percussion Valje Beech Wood Bongos with Chrome Hardware The LP Valje Wood Bongos feature original "steel band" rims, still preferred by some percussionists over all others, and Cuban style steel bottoms. Retaining the desirable authentic Valje contoured shell, the new Valje Wood Bongos are constructed of prime beech and finished in luxurious natural satin. Beech is a hard wood with attractive grain. LP Valje Bongos yield good attack and strong lower mid frequencies, attributes acknowledged in both percussion and drum set arenas.

LP Generation II Bongos have several features that put them a step above many other models. The Siam Oak shells have a more pronounced shell contour, giving them crisper, higher tones that really bark above the ensemble. LP Comfort Curve II rims keep your hands from becoming fatigued or injured, and the special steel backing plate prevents cracks in the shell caused by falling. Armando Peraza Bongos Born in Havana, Cuba, and one of the most revered icons in the world of percussion, Armando Peraza is a legendary master on both congas and bongos. Upon arriving in New York City in 1949, he quickly built a reputation of amazingly fast, complicated handwork, experimental techniques and showmanship. During his prolific career, which has spanned more than 60 years, Armando Peraza has performed on more than 100 albums, written over 40 songs and performed/recorded with such musical icons as George Shearing, Cal Tjader, Santana, Jaco Pastorius, Charlie Mingus and Billie Holiday. LP Compact Bongos project an amazing range of tones that belie their reduced size. Made from a special aluminum alloy, the Compact Bongos feature full-size 7-1/4" and 8-5/8" heads and are drum key tunable. Their compact design allows easy placement in drum kits or expansive percussion setups where space is an issue. And the sound is amazingly close to that of standard bongos. They respond well to intricate hand patterns and can also be played to good effect with drumsticks.

The John Rodriguez Bongos are made from Beech wood which grants them a great deal of extra resonance. The slightly wider hembra (larger) drum has a 9" diameter for louder volume. The dark stain with the black band on these drums is quite distinctive, as are the traditional rims and cuban-style steel bottoms. This instrument is designed specifically for the seated bongo player, with a small center block for greater comfort while holding the drums.
