The Meinl Floatune Tuning System is a unique Meinl innovation: all mounting hardware is completely isolated from the shell, which negates the need to drill through the shell and mount hardware with bolts (a process that reduces the resonant vibrations of the shell). The Meinl Floatune Series Fiberglass Djembes offer a much different sound than wooden djembes. Fiberglass has enormous strength, and can produce slaps of outstanding clarity and immensely powerful bass tones. Tuning is a very simple process with the included L-shaped tuning key, tune-up oil, and an accessory pouch so you never lose these important components.

The 12" x 24 1/4" Meinl Floatune Djembe is slightly lighter and higher in pitch than the regular 12 3/4" x 25 1/4" size, giving you slightly more edge on the high end of the sound spectrum.
These ultra-light weatherproof djembes are equipped with synthetic heads that produce the classic djembe sound and a fiberglass shell, both of which are unaffected by atmospheric conditions. The Journey Series Rope Tuned Djembes are great for drum circles and casual outdoor playing because they are very low-maintenance and easy to carry around.
Meinl Headliner Congo Series Rope Tuned Djembes are crafted in a very similar fashion to the traditional method found in Mali: hollowed from a solid piece of plantation grown Mahogany, the shell is then hand carved and the ropes are weaved in the traditional fashion. The pre-stretched ropes are made from PP nylon, and the head is made from hand-selected goat skin, making for a very authentic-sounding instrument.
