For years, the Holmes Artist's Choice Timpani Mallets have been used by top professionals and serious students. The replaceable felt ball meant that mallets could quickly be renewed without having to sew or ship back for recovering.
These fine timpani mallets are now better than ever! Each pair of Holmes Artist's Choice Timpani Mallets now comes standard with two sets of weighted washers. The interchangeable threaded washers will allow discriminating timpanists a choice in selecting the weighting and balance of each pair of mallets. Changing from aluminum to brass will transform your Artist's Choice mallets into a significantly heavier mallet that produces a noticeably darker sonority from any timpani.
The standard aluminum washers weigh in at 2.5 grams each and are perfect for light to general playing. Enclosed with each pair is a second set of brass washers that weigh in at 9 grams each, which are perfect for the "heavier" literature such as Brahms, Wagner, Mahler, etc. In addition, the changing of weights changes the balance and center of gravity of the mallets, helping to promote sonic color change.
While there have been other "weight adjustable" timpani mallets in the past, none, until now, have accomplished changes in weight at the apex of the stroke arc. By doing so, the weighting of each pair of Holmes Artist's Choice mallets significantly enhances transitional timbral changes. They can talk all day about the advantages to these mallets, but you really have to play them for yourself to really appreciate the advantages of the dual-weighting. |
