The LP Lap Top Conga provides the 'woody' sound of traditional congas in a small, easy to carry 11" x 19" x 3" wooden package. For nearly thirty years Rekow has added his pulsating and colorful rhythms to the Santana sound, captivating audiences on five continents. The LP 30th Anniversary version of these drums are very similar to the original, exquisite Giovanni Palladium congas. The modifications to the design are largely aesthetic, paying homage to the period in time when latin and jazz music took the reins of the musical culture of New York City. Festive and very old-world, the vertical bands of color running down these drums, and their uniform 32" height give these drums a 1960's style. The quality of the drums remains the same, including Curve II Rims for an improved sound spectrum, heavy gauge steel LP Hearts side plates, heat treated tuning lugs (40% stronger), and 3-ply Siam Oak shells.
These bongos have North American Ash shells with 7.25" and 8.625" heads. The distinctive black finish with Abraxas Angel graphic overlays truly sets this pair of bongos apart, while the EZ Curve rim makes them just as easy to play as other LP bongos.

The John Rodriguez Bongos are made from Beech wood which grants them a great deal of extra resonance. The slightly wider hembra (larger) drum has a 9" diameter for louder volume. The dark stain with the black band on these drums is quite distinctive, as are the traditional rims and cuban-style steel bottoms. This instrument is designed specifically for the seated bongo player, with a small center block for greater comfort while holding the drums.
The Joe Madera Congas are all 30" tall, crafted from Siam Oak, and have a unique contour. These elements combine to give the drums a great deal of mid- to high-range clarity. Fiberglass has been added to the inside upper area of the shell to provide additional strength and durability. As with all LP high-end products, plenty of innovative hardware is included on these instruments including Heart side plates, 5/16" tuning lugs, Comfort Curve II rims, and all chrome-plated hardware.The Legends series is now richer for the inclusion of LP Legend Series Joe Madera Congas, winner of the 2009 M.I.P.A Award for best percussion product. Musical director Jose "Joe" Madera, born in New York City to Jose "Pin" Madera (first arranger for the Machito Orchestra), played timbales with "Machito" in his teens. He later became Tito Puente's conguero for 30 years and was the musical director of the Tito Puente Orchestra for 10 years. Jose has been staff arranger at Fania Records since the 1970s and has performed on over 100 recordings in Latin, Pop, R&B, and Jazz music.
