The She-e Wu Series WU4C medium hard marimba mallets are designed to meet the musical needs of marimba virtuoso She-e Wu. Much like the WU4 model, these mallets have natural birch shafts and a synthetic core for projection and a warm sound. However, the wrapping on these mallets is made from tightly-wound bamboo, giving these mallets a staccato timbre and a cutting edge to their sound. As anybody who has performed a marimba concerto with a large ensemble can attest, the marimba has about the same sound production as the clarino (middle) range of a clarinet. To simply be heard over a loud orchestra or wind ensemble, marimbists in the past have resorted to playing on the marimba with mallets just short of being rocks wrapped with yarn, distorting the mellow sound we all love and possibly damaging the bars. This mallet will provide the same volume production while taking some of that angry edge off.
