The unique features of the Pro-mark Tom Freer Chime Malletsare evident in all aspects of their construction and sound. The material used in the mallet head has a clean sound with no tick at all and is the perfect weight, diameter and length. The shaft is hickory and is oval shaped yet fairly flat so it's comfortable to grip and play. One side has a thin felt disc covering for cushioning the attack of soft notes and the other side is left uncovered for mf to f playing. Most importantly the assembly of the head to the shaft is made by using expanding foam glue and a screw so that you will never experience any separation between the two and noise this can cause.
Hickory shaft with two toned soft/hard double sided covering over new felt core. The DS2 is a timpani mallet based on the extremely popular 1A (Mahler III) bass drum mallets. It uses the same Freer-designed double seam method on a 1.5” felt core, with hard green felt on one side and very soft white German felt on the other. These sticks have become a real necessity for many timpanists, useful for a multitude of pieces requiring fast switches. Sound ranges from general to medium hard.
Bamboo shaft two toned maple core double sided mallet. Wood disc core with felt on one side. Identical to DS4 Hickory only with bamboo shaft. Same as DS4B but permanently mounted on a bamboo shaft. IMPROVED! Small gray with brass insert on rattan shaft.. Same ball and insert as before but with the insert actually inverted /inserted from the bottom. This gives the K11 a better feel and appearance with greatly increased strength and durability. The K11 creates a slightly softer and warmer sound than the K10. They are excellent on glockenspiel in particular but also xylophone as well. (Stravinsky, Debussy, etc.). Also useful on other percussion instruments.
Fiberglass shafts with wood core and very hard woven felt covering with maraca beads in shaft. The Freer Maraca Stick has shaft made of fiberglass for better sound, better balance, and more maraca sound than other maraca sticks on the market. This is the only maraca mallet that actually gets some rebound off of the head and gives an equal ratio of timpani and maraca sound. A thin rubber grip gives you great control, and a very special type of bead on the inside of the mallet gives a much stronger maraca sound similar to that of an egg shaker. For West Side Story, or Raise The Roof, or any other piece where you want an excellent maraca AND timpani sound—these are what you are looking for.

IMPROVED! Long hickory shaft with extra large double sided wood disc head. A new double thick liner felt is now used on the white/soft side to create a greater difference and contrast in sound from the harder green side. The Freer 50/50 DS Tam Tam Beater uses Freer Double-Seam technology to give you a two-surface mallet head. It has hard green German felt on one side of the head and soft white German felt on the other side. The long hickory handle and the heavy head make this a very unique and versatile beater for all tam tams larger than 26” in diameter. This is the choice for players who are looking for the one beater that will be their daily “go to” mallet. It’s built to last a lifetime.
Bamboo shaft extra hard staccato wood core with hard felt. The Freer US1B has a new wood core for better surface contact and more consistent sound. The small-ball core shape, hard-felt covering, and high-quality bamboo shaft give you a staccato mallet with a full yet tight and clean sound.
Hickory shaft , convex felt core extra hard staccato mallet. The hickory shaft on the original Freer US2 has been slightly beefed up in the neck and handle areas for less vibration, higher pitch, slightly increased weight, and better balance. The edges of the felt core are now more rounded providing better surface contact and a more consistent sound. An extreme version of a Cloyd Duff #2, the hard-felt core and covering of the Freer US2 make it a great rhythm stick for Beethoven, Bartok, Stravinsky, or any other music where you want an articulate and clean sound.
Bamboo rollers with ball covering. With a totally new core and covering that gives you even less contact sound, even less stroke sound, and even more fundamental than earlier versions of this model. They are best for solo rolls of any kind, at any volume—a perfect stick for the Bartok 2nd piano concerto, any Sibelius, and of course the Brahms 1st piano concerto. The specially designed core and covering system makes this stick extremely soft yet clean sounding without slap or contact noise. It always sounds legato and strokeless and smooth.
