TAMA Starphonic Drums have several advanced components designed by TAMA to create a superb product. These advancements include:
This Bubinga snare features a thinner shell than the standard Starclassic Bubinga drums for a softer and warmer sound. Reducing the shell thickness rounds out Bubinga's massive sound but still demonstrates outstanding rich tone and full resonance. The Grooved Hoop emphasizes the sharp projection and warmth of Bubinga's low-end. An beautiful outer ply of Matte Natural Cordia wood perfectly matches this drum's noble sound.
A slightly thicker 1.2mm brass shell and new Grooved Hoop gives this drum rich, warm resonance and sharp projection. This drum has an exceptionally wide frequency and tuning range, allowing for great sonic variety simply by adjusting the tuning and snappy snares. With such versatility, this is a drum that will complement any musical style or playing situation.
Starclassic Performer B/B snare drums combine the classic tone of thin birch for the outer layer of the shell with new, heavy-duty African bubinga for the inner shell. The use of the thicker, harder bubinga accentuates birch's distinct tone and projection. The combination of the two creates a more powerful, deeply rounded sound.
The combination of Maple's open, resonant sound with the Grooved Hoop and super sensitive Hi-Carbon Snappy snares gives this drum a rich, open, crisp sound reminiscent of the prized vintage snares.
Starclassic Brass snare drums feature a 1.5mm brass shell that has a softer sound than steel, but these drums still have the power to cut through the din. Die-cast hoops contribute to an overall sound boasting a powerful attack as well as sensitivity and response. The nickel-plated shells feature brushed nickel hardware to create a striking contrast. The following features are included:
Stewart Copeland's signature model is a faithful reproduction of the snare drum of "mysterious provenance" that he used with the Police. A brass shell that's 0.5mm thicker than the standard 1mm shell and the combination of a die-cast batter hoop with a triple flanged bottom hoop provides sounds that easily penetrate what Copeland describes as the "dirge from the bass and the ear-piecing sounds of a guitar."
The TAMA Simon Phillips "Pageant" signature snare drum is the most compact, delicate drum in his line. Crafted with 7 plies of maple, this 5" x 12" drum comes fitted with Sound Focus Rings (SFRs) that slightly dampen the shell, giving the drum a deeper and more articulate sound.
Simon's second main snare, "The Gladiator", combines a 5.5"x 14" size with a black nickel-plated bronze shell.
Simon's main snare drum, "The Monarch", produces exotic new tones thanks to its 8-ply figured maple/bubinga/maple hybrid shell and customized triple flanged hoops. This combination provides a warm controlled sound with sharp, bright cut. This 6.5" x 14" drum comes fitted with Sound Focus Rings (SFRs) that slightly dampen the shell, giving the drum a deeper and more articulate sound.
