Yamaha developed the Sensitive Series snare drums from the very beginning to offer drummers a drum that would excel in any musical environment. From soft jazz, pop, or rock, this drum can do it all, and do it well. The shell, based on the Maple Custom, is a 7-ply shell made of North American maple.The top bearing edge cut is 60° for more shell-to-head contact, adding warmth and body to the drum. The snare-side bearing edge cut at 45° for sensitivity and articulation. The snare beds are 2.7mm deep allowing great snare response at loose tension, yet a crisp sound without having to over-tighten the snares and choke the snare head.The Sensitive Series drums are fitted with chrome Maple Custom style lugs and aluminum die-cast hoops. The small, one-bolt lugs allow the shell to vibrate, and the hoops are light for resonance and rigid for accurate tuning.
For drummers that need a drum that will cut through, but still want the warmth of wood.The heart of the Loud Series snare drums is their 8-ply oak shell. This shell gives these snare drums the ability to cut through loud music without sounding brittle. Oak has a low fundamental and lots of warmth, but without losing the high-end frequencies.The bearing edge cut is 45° for attack and articulation, the snare beds cut 2.7mm deep for great snare response at all dynamic levels. The shells are drilled with eight air vents to dry the tone a bit, adding more clarity and control in situations where the drums are mic'd. All of this means that even though these drums can be loud, they do not have to be. They have great response even at low dynamic levels, making them suitable for players of all styles.To make these drums look as striking as they sound, they are fitted with 10-lug 2.3mm steel Dynahoops and 20 offset lugs, and the hardware is finished in a beautiful dark-chrome finish. The 14" x 6" four-ply maple shell with 6-ply reinforcing rings is modeled after some of the most popular vintage snare drums. The bearing edges are 60° with a rounded profile for maximum contact with the head. This gives the drum a warm, and woody tone, with great sustain. The snare beds are 2.7mm deep for wide dynamic response, allowing the snares to be very loose for that classic wet, funky sound or tightened up for a crisp, dry snare sound.The Vintage Series snare drums are fitted with 8-lug, 1.6mm steel hoops to minimize the amount of metal on the shell and give the drum a "soft" feel. The lugs are the small, single-bolt design used on the Oak Custom series drums.
