The Ahead Chavez Arsenal Tenor Pad will help you learn your marching band, drum corps, or indoor drumline book while helping develop correct technique along the way - and you'll look good doing it with this sleek gray/blue combo.

The 'spock' drum zone closest to the player is oval-shaped so that it doesn't matter whether you play with five drums or six - either way you're covered. Each of the zones are fitted with gum rubber that accurately feels like a marching tenor head.

A sound chamber is located underneath each zone (only under the proper playing area) that grows in size as the zones get bigger, giving you an audible difference between the pads to help you memorize how a lick sounds. The bigger the zone, the deeper the pitch.

The body of the pad is made compressed fiberboard that will not break in between the zones. Underneath you'll find three slots that will accept the arms of any standard snare drum stand basket, and foam pads allow you to simply put the pad on a flat surface if you so choose.

The S-Hoops surrounding each zone train you how to play scrapes without hitting rims (you'll know it when you do), and they are also designed to force you to play in areas that won't damage the bearing edges on a real set of drums!

    • Many of the features that are supposed to make this pad better than others end up hindering its usefulness to the intermediate/advanced player. The way the rims angle in to protect the bearing edge would do well to teach young players not to play to close to the rims, but for more advanced scrapes and crossovers it becomes very easy for the stick to hit the angled surface and fly out of the player's hand. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that the gum rubber kind of pulls the stick during fast scrapes, requiring much more energy to move the stick from drum to drum than one would need on real quads. Due to these things, motions that would work perfectly well on real drums result in the stick flying out of your hand, which is incredibly frustrating. Ultimately, the pad does a poor job of replicating the feeling of real drums.

    • I unscrewed the rims, and I'd prefer it that way.

    • This pad has lasted me 2-3 years now and is still playing strong, but i wish the pad laminate option came with, the gum rubber kind of pulls your stick while doing fast sweeps.

    • purchased for my son, within 3 months the fiberboard started breaking down with residual pieces left beneath the pad. Left with barely supported rubber.
