Percussionists tend to have a hard time finding church gigs - something about a snare drum solo doesn't appeal to the clergy. That time has changed - there was a second book of marimba solos for church gigs, and it was good. All written for a 4.3 octave instrument, each solo has optional notes for 4.5 or 5.0 octave marimbas to fit whatever instrument you happen to bring. The entire book provides around 30 minutes of music, which is more than enough for multiple services. (Here's a peek) Each solo is medium in difficulty, so they don't take forever to work up but they'll impress everybody in the congregation. Arranged hymns include:
    • All Creatures of Our God and King
    • Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
    • Amazing Grace
    • What Wondrous Love Is This
    • Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee
    • For the Beauty of the Earth
    • Fillmore
    • This is My Father's World
From the arranger: This is the second volume in the Sacred Marimbist collection - the first arranged by David Gillingham and this collection arranged by Nathan Daughtrey. All arrangements in this book are playable on a 4.3-octave (low A) marimba. Optional lower notes are indicated in parentheses throughout. Tenuto marks appear in every hymn, which indicate notes that should be brought out of the texture, such as melodic lines or points of harmonic interest. Additionally, nearly every arrangement features a flexible duration, giving the performer the option to shorten or lengthen the piece as the performance venue may require. Enjoy!
