Five Pieces by Pius Cheung is a collection of miniatures written for other friends who also play the marimba: Nancy Zeltsman, Yuko Yoshikawa, Eriko Daimo, Fumito Nunoya, and Jonathan Singer. Each movement obliquely represents these performers.

This work is Pius's first attempt at twelve tone music, and are a large step away from his normal Neo-Classical/Neo-Romantic writing style. However, they are not truly "atonal" in the Schoenbergian sense - they sound more like oddly interesting jazz.

    Difficulty: Medium +

    Duration: 5 minutes

    Requires 5.0-Octave Marimba
