  • Item Details

Six Elegies Dancing by Jennifer Stasack is a series of musical ideas written for solo marimba, each strikingly different from the last. All of them are written in a contemporary style, often more like fuzzy ideas of emotion rather than melody and harmony.

    • I.Adamantly, Vigorously -fast and violent, with rapid scales and quick rhythms. Stays mostly in the upper registers, with very hard mallets.
    • II.Intensely - focused and less frantic splotches of sound than the first movement, but still very energetic. Moto perpetuo in style.
    • III.Gingerly, very stable - much slower and transparent, with plenty of room for silence.
    • IV.Furiously - the fastest of all the movements, with very rapid and very chromatic phrases of sound.
    • V.With Deliberate Concentration - dramatic, using lots of visual effects and a kick drum. Will require the most study to understand what to do.
    • VI.Elegiac - a chorale, and the most 'standard' of all the movements in terms of style.

Instrumentation: 4.3 Octave Marimba, Kick Drum

    Difficulty: Advanced +

    Duration: 10:00

    • Here’s where your summary shows up. You can talk about things you like about it, things you don’t, what your expectations were, what you had heard from other people, or whatever you’d like! Hitting the return button after a sentence a couple of times will move your text down to the next line like this, so you can make paragraphs that are easier for people to read.
