Item Details
Three Chorales, Vol. 2 adds three short, lush pieces to the higher degrees of marimba solo literature. With very long phrases, wide interval gaps, and moving inner voices, these chorales are not designed for the beginner. They are a great addition to any serious marimbist's repertoire.
- Chorale Fantasy is dedicated to Robert's grandfather, with a dignified and regal tone.
- Lasciato is introspective and spends a great deal of time in the lowest register.
- Nimrod is an arrangement of the famous movement from Elgar's Enigma Variations.

Pros
- Beautiful and rich harmonies that make you feel like you're bathing in the finest dark Belgian chocolate
- Clearly written and understood
- Clever but not abstract
-
Cons
- Not for those who think good contemporary music has to be atonal, polyrhythmic, and technical
- Can't find a single person who doesn't like listening to them

- Unbelievably good tonal contemporary music our repertoire sorely needs

- The Chorales are neutron stars of emotion, short but dense, and every note is carefully crafted. Robert has an ear for the sweet and soothing side of music and remains artistic rather than cheesy. Two of the pieces immediately entered my repertoire and are there to stay. Rob, thanks for sharing these personal pieces with us. Also, Nanae Mimura says she likes the Chorale Fantasy (the first piece). (P.S. Lone Star, I'm not a drummer, teacher, or student. But I guess marimbists aren't a niche you're catering to! Ha.)
