Blake M. Wilkins' percussion ensemble Compendium works to focus on a process Wilkins has applied to many other works wherein he works to isolate the typically integrated parameters of music. Taking elements like harmony, melody, rhythm, texture, timbre, etc and break them down in various closed-ended transformational processes.

Compendium focuses primarily on rhythm and melody transformations, this results in an interesting passing of rhythmic and melodic lines throughout the 11 parts.

With a mix of keyboard and traditional percussion instruments, this work has a constant driving momentum that propels the music forward, making it exciting for audiences to experience and a fun, yet challenging process for the performers. Well suited for collegiate level ensembles due to the difficult rhythms and lack of traditional tonality, Compendium is an excellent addition to any upcoming percussion ensemble concert.

    • Here’s where your summary shows up. You can talk about things you like about it, things you don’t, what your expectations were, what you had heard from other people, or whatever you’d like! Hitting the return button after a sentence a couple of times will move your text down to the next line like this, so you can make paragraphs that are easier for people to read.
