The Ahead 10" AHPKZ Corps Practice Pad has a white, hard rubber playing surface with a built-in snare sound. This emulates the sound and feel of high-tension marching snare drums so there is little muscle memory change when you go back to playing on the real thing.

    • Best and most affordable snare-sound pad!

    • I was so excited to find this pad and am very satisfied with it. You won't find a cheaper pad that has a built-in snare sound and laminate anywhere. Definitely a better product IMO than the S-Hoop carbon fiber snare pad Ahead also sells, and cheaper too. If you're craving an articulate pad with a snare sound, and you're on a budget like most of us are, this is absolutely the pad for you. Feel is similar to that of a Xymox pad, maybe a little softer, but at less than half the price. The only thing you miss out on with this pad is a raised rim component, which is a minor feature. The 10" size is on the smaller side, but this is a plus, as it is lightweight and easily loaded in a backpack. In the month or so that I've used it, the laminate has held up very well, with only very minor indents that you can only notice if you slide your hand across it. It does not affect my playing. It is a thin, sturdy layer (thicker than the clear VF Heavy Hitter laminates) pre-attached to a 1/4" gum rubber surface. THE LAMINATE WILL DENT IF YOU ABUSE IT, so treat it with some care. Bashing stand-tunes and playing with the backsides of your sticks is not what this pad was made for. The snare unit looks to be adjustable, but my tension rods are either slightly stripped, or the unit does not adjust. This isn't a big deal though, as the snare sound is snappy and quick, similar to a moderately tight marching snare. You only get snare sound over the area the snare plate covers, just fyi. Great pad for the price, and really the best option for the cool snare sound and laminate-articulate surface.
